A quick flight from McCarthy gets you on top of Nikolai Ridge and close to the shoulder of Sourdough Mountain. The drop-off is in the alpine and amazing views greet you upon arrival. We hang out and explore the surrounding ridges, capturing sweet views of upper McCarthy Creek, the Chitistone Valley, the Nizina River, and lots more. Either
get picked up in the alpine, or it's a 16 mile hike over the shoulder
of Sourdough, down a rock glacier, and back alongside McCarthy Creek.
It is a long third day that involves some bushwhacking and possible
creek crossings, recommended only for more experienced and well-conditioned
hikers. |
