Alaska winter activites

Just because its cold and snowy in the winter months doesn't mean that you can't get out and enjoy Alaska's wilderness! In fact, many outdoor enthusiasts prefer the winter for the special recreation opportunities it provides. Waterfall ice climbing, alpine snow climbing, backcountry skiing, snowshoeing, and cross-country ski touring are some of the great activities that abound during this peaceful and amazing time of year. If you've ever wanted to sharpen your winter skills, we can help! Our veterans of Alaska's winters can safely guide you through the tricks and techniques that make this season so much fun. These trips focus on the Western Chugach mountains outside of Anchorage.
Who knows, you may find yourself looking forward to the winters, just like we do!

Waterfall Ice Climbing

Waterfall ice climbing instruction

Many waterfalls continue to seep in the winter, causing amazing curtains of ice to form upon their rock walls. This ice is one of the most beautiful, aesthetic, and awe inspiring winter sights. We'll teach you the subtleties and techniques involved in climbing this ephemeral medium on some of the many waterfalls in the greater Anchorage area. No previous experience is necessary; we can cater to first-timers as well as those looking to take their abilities to the next level. Intermediate skills include placing ice screws for protection, mock leading, and more dynamic climbing techniques.

Day Trips (8-9 hour day)

Multi-day options are available.
