COPPER
CENTER
Copper Center is the site of the first mining settlement in the
Copper River Valley - established in 1898. It's at the confluence
of the Klutina and Copper rivers, that you can hike to from behind
the Copper Center Lodge. There is also a tavern run by a local historian
and author, with a running replica model train set of the old Copper
River Railroad and countless photos from 'the day'. There is a cabin/museum
(the George Ashby Memorial) with Russian and Athabascan artifacts,
copper, gold, and trapping memorabilia.

CHITINA
Chitina
is an old railroad town/ghost town nestled amongst massive mountains
and a series of small lakes, and within walking distance of the
Copper River. The scenery is ridiculously beautiful. It is a small,
quiet town that was once slated to be the capital of Alaska. There
is a tavern to have a beverage, a Burger Bar that's typically open
until 10 p.m., coffee available in the morning, an art gallery and
gift shop.
